today was a good day…

I had an organizing job recently that was completely rewarding!  I met with a client who wanted an entire home refresh!  She was a mom of 3 which made it very difficult to keep up with decluttering and tiding up. She just “didn’t know where to start and didn’t have the time to begin.” This is a sentiment that I hear often and it is totally understandable. Moms are HEROES that should never feel bad about putting their children first above all else. But, here’s the thing, even hero’s could use a little help sometimes….and that’s okay.

Let me walk you through how this process generally takes place: We started with decluttering each room at a time for the first 1-2 sessions. This allowed us to visualize how much space we will be able to work with once we begin to organize. We discussed and eventually purchased extra organizing products (bins, baskets, under the sink drawers, furniture, etc) that we will use to organize each space. It helps to order these items first before starting to organize so that you can create “systems” during the session which will help the client to maintain the new spaces created. I came back once all products were delivered and we began the organizing process. I did most of it on my own from this point forward because she had already went through everything with me to purge unnecessary items. I walked her through each room and gave her an idea of what I would be doing. It took about 2 days (4-6 hours each session) to accomplish the ENTIRE home!

Side note: When a client has children, I always suggest ways to make “clean-up” more simple and quick. I usually suggest LARGE hamper style baskets that the parents can use for quick cleanup (i.e. unexpected guests, right before bed, etc). Sometimes, parents can even make their kid responsible for just throwing everything in the bin….make it a game, “how fast can you cleanup your toys?”. I do, however, suggest that even though you use these easy cleaning bins, you should clear them out often. When clearing out, I would suggest full wall organizers with plenty of bins to compartmentalize all toys/items.

When we were finished, she felt so much pressure and stress off herself…it was amazing to witness. She was adamant that she would be able to maintain all the new systems in place. She was very greatful for the help and she was an ABSOLUTE PLEASURE to work with! I always stay in touch and make myself available for anything else she needs in the future!
